2021 Fall MASSA Keelboat Championship hosted by ANNAPOLIS YACHT CLUB:
The MASSA District held a one day Keelboat Qualifier for Nationals on Saturday, November 20th, 2021. Key School and St. Mary's High School (MD) co-hosted the Championship with the Annapolis Yacht Club in their Fleet of J22s. Eight teams from MASSA District competed for the top 2 qualifying spots. Team weigh in, rigging of the boats, and dock call was approximately around 8:00 AM and Harbor Start was around 8:45 AM. Racing was postponed at 9:00 AM for 4 hours while we dealt with the windy practice day break downs and waited for the Southerly to fill in. The first race commenced around 12:12 PM. The Race Committee completed 8 races before 4:00 PM cut off. Winds ranged from 6-9 knots throughout the Championship with temperatures in the lower 40s. Signal Boat Docking Time was 4:40 PM. There was one protest filed in regards to weight limit at 4:51 PM and one redress request in regards to weight limit filed at 5:03 PM with a filing deadline of 5:10 PM. A redress hearing was held via ZOOM at 3:05 PM on Sunday, November 21st and the Protest Committee comprised of three US Sailing National Judges denied redress request for Hampton Roads Academy. The protest filed by Broadneck High School was withdrawn.
