On a crisp and mostly sunny day on Annapolis Harbor, 36 plus sailors tested their team racing skills in the MASSA Silver Team Race Championship hosted by Severn Sailing Association.
Winds started out 5 to 10 mph from the WNW and then dramatically shifted late morning to the NNE settled in with 15 degree shifts; wind increased to 10 with gusts to 15 and around 3 pm slowly dropped to around 5 mph with occasional puffs.
With the Falcons, Islanders, Tigers, Hornets, Saints, and Bruins all ready to go, and an all-volunteer SSA Race Committee on their game, the 3 round-robins (45 starts) and the final four were completed in one day.
There was some solid team racing, noticeable improvements in starts and tactics during the event, and great boat handling.
The umpires, Tim Herzog of SSA, John DeRuff AYC and coach, and ??Islander coach, supported the sailors in keeping the racing fair and square.
Congrats to the all, and well done, Broadneck on tremendous team spirit and great racing.
Robin Richards PRO, Matt White DRO, assisted by Cathee Lee, Lisa Keithley, Christine Potts, Brian Hetherington, and John O’Riordan.
There was no racing Sunday as we were able to complete the event on Saturday.
