NJISA 2021 Fall Fleet Championship

Summary

Sunday, October 3:

The 2021 NJISA Fall Fleet Championship saw 12 enthusiastic teams vie for the chance to attend the MASSA Gold and Silver Championships in two weeks.

While the sailors were eager to battle it out on the water, the breeze was not so cooperative. One race was sailed in a light westerly before an on-water delay, waiting for the south breeze to fill in. The breeze did eventually fill from the south, albeit very light, and racing resumed just after 1:00 p.m. Ultimately, 12 total W4 races were completed - six in each division - throughout the slow moving day.

With the conditions being challenging, the top spots were closely contested through the duration of the afternoon. Christian Brothers Academy and Donovan Catholic emerged from the pack to contend for the championship. CBA outlasted Donovan in the final B Division set to win the regatta by three points.

Point Pleasant Beach, Biotechnology, and Ranney completed the top five. A Division was won by Donovan's James Kopack and Caroline Felser, while B Division was dominated by a speedy Point Pleasant Beach combo of Richard Pokorny and Morgan Auth.

With allocations being finalized, the top three or four teams will travel to Rochester Yacht Club for the MASSA Gold Championship and ACC qualifier, while the next three or four teams will head to Buffalo Yacht Club for the Silver Championship.

Thank you to Dave Magno and John Paggi for serving as the race committee and Brad Wright for manning the mark boat. Our thanks to TRYC and BBYRA for providing the facility and fleet.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
