The final weekend event of the NJISA Fall 2022 calendar proved to be one of the nicest days of the season! Seventeen teams from 11 schools contended for the Rooster Flag at the 2022 BBYRA Fall Invitational, keeping with the 100+ year tradition of the BBYRA awarding Rooster Flags to fleet winners. The breeze was a tricky north-northeast direction, making both sailors and race management work hard throughout the day.
Fourteen races were completed in just about five hours of racing, seven W4s and seven W3s to account for the rotation dock being upwind of the course.
Christian Brothers Academy's first team used a very consistent A Division performance and a late B Division surge to pull away from the pack and win the Rooster Flag. Racing was tight between the next three: Southern Regional (54 points), Summit's first team (56 points), and CBA's second team (61 points).
The A Division was won by CBA's Christopher Small and Kyle Lombardino by 11 points over second place Pilar Cundey and Jessica Li from Summit. The B Division was topped by Southern's Belle Placa, Erin Little and Natalie Shaw by two points over a tie between CBA's Mitchell Hnatt and Ryan Mullholland and opposing Colts' teammates Noah Kuzloski and Nicholas Cunha.
Dr. Randall Nunn served as PRO for the regatta, while Dave Magno tended to the course and took upwind finishes. Thanks to Toms River Yacht Club for allowing us to use the facilities for yet another great high school sailing season. In their namesake regatta, a big thank you to the Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association for their enthusiastic support of the NJISA with the continued FJ partnership.
