SAISA District Team Race Champs

Summary

Saturday, April 30:

Beautiful conditions of sun and 11-14 knots of wind greeted 8 SAISA teams vying for the two SAISA spots for the Baker Team Race National Championships in Anacortes, Washington on May 28-29, 2016. Host Lauderdale Yacht Club's Commodore and PRO Peter Commette and his race committee ran 48 races in just under 7 hours, nearly completing two full rotations. Marks 3 and 4 were 25' from the floating dock creating a stadium type setting and providing the many spectators with a great 50 yard line view of the racing. A huge thank you to the Lauderdale YC staff and the many volunteers that included:

Sunday, May 1:

A second day of intense team racing in front of the Lauderdale Yacht Club clubhouse in near perfect conditions with 11-14 knots of wind and flat water for completing the 2nd round robin and a final 6-race 3rd round robin of the top four teams. Races were 8 - 10 minutes in duration. The flood tide provided enough water depth to take the famous LYC sandbar out of play and there was plenty of room to set up the 3 on 3 team race course. PRO Peter Commette did an outstanding job running 62 total races.

Congratulations to Antilles for winning the regatta by defeating St. Thomas Aquinas in the last race of the event. Congratulations to both Antilles and St. Thomas Aquinas for earning berths to represent SAISA at the 2016 Baker Team Race National Championship.

Thank you to the Lauderdale YC staff and the many volunteers for their time and the use of private equipment.
