On Sunday, May 22, 2016 twelve teams from 8 Virginia public and private schools met at Mill Creek on Fort Monroe in Hampton Virginia for the VISA Women's Fleet Race Championship Regatta. Sailors were greeted by overcast skies and intermittent light rain, along with NW winds from 2-7 mph, laced with west and SW shifts to 9 mph. Seas were flat.
Sailors were able to complete 6 W-4 races in a single division. Skipper Darden Purrington and crew Ann Burns Morrison from Norfolk Collegiate School took first place, followed by skipper Ellie Maus and crew Ashley Obermeyer also from Norfolk Collegiate School, with third place being earned by skipper Kaila Pfrang and crew Hailey Gilman from Nansemond Suffolk Academy.
