Grosse Pointe South Team Race Regatta

Bunnies and Jelly Beans were among the teams sailing at Grosse Pointe South's Spring Team Race Regatta on Saturday, and both the weather and the Easter holiday weekend contributed to a day of fun sailing. The morning rain cleared by race time and sunshine predominated after that point, with temperatures ultimately reaching into the 80s. Wind ranged from very little early in the regatta to reports of 25 knots in the afternoon; the wind shifted several times and the course was reset more than once. Twelve teams were in attendance, with Spring Lake High School traveling the longest distance to attend. The race committee operated swiftly and smoothly to get in 33 races before the regatta had to be called due to dangerously high winds.

Congratulations to Grosse Pointe South's Blue team for winning the regatta with a record of 6-0, to Detroit Country Day's Varsity team for taking second place with a record of 5-0, and to Grosse Pointe North's Norsemen team and Grosse Pointe South's Gold team for tying for third place with records of 4-1. Thank you to scorer Kathy Johnson, regatta chair Harold Stackpoole, Coach Jim Cooper, GPYC's Michael Weber, and everyone who helped out on race committee for running a fun Tier 3 regatta that provided a learning experience for the sailors who are newer to team racing. Thank you also to Torrey Stackpoole and her hospitality team for keeping the racers nourished and hydrated, and for the popsicles at the conclusion of racing!
