MISSA Baker Qualifier

Saturday morning the sailors arrived at Light House Island to find a 5-6 mph northerly breeze and flat water. Racing commenced at 1000hrs and 10 races were completed before the wind shifted west. The RC reset the course to the new wind direction and race 11 was completed before the wind died at 1215hrs and the sailors were sent ashore.

After two hours ashore the wind filled in from the northwest at 5mph and racing resumed at 1415hrs. The race committee made numerous course adjustments to accommodate large shifts. Racing was abandoned for the day at 1900hrs after the completion of race 45.

Race 46 was started at 0930 hrs in a 6mph southeasterly breeze. Racing continued throughout the morning, with the RC making adjustments as the wind shifted easterly. Race 66 finished at 1300hrs, completing the qualifying round robin. Due to the 1500hrs drop dead time the intended format of a 6 team gold fleet round robin was not possible to complete, so it was not started.

A 3 way sail off for 4th place was used to break the 4th place tie. After completing the first two of the sail off races a sail off winner was determined, the third sail off race was abandoned by umpires due to lack of wind, and not restarted.

First and second place from this regatta will represent MISSA in the Baker National Championship and the third and fourth place teams will be competing in the National Invitational Team Race.
