2018 NIT Team Racing Regatta

Summary

Saturday, May 26:

Started the morning off with a coaches meeting and competitors meeting. We then sent all the sailors out on to the water. The RC and mark-set boats tried and tried to set a course with the light and shifty winds. The wind just never filled in and stayed for more than 10 mins and when i say wind i mean 0-4kts if that. So by 1400 the race team management decided to call it for the day and let the teams head back to their hotels and spend the day hanging out and doing fun activities around Rochester. The decision was made to modify the NOR and have Sunday's report time be 0700 and first signal at 0800.

Sunday, May 27:

Sunday morning sure came quick with the report time of 0700 the sailors rigged and we again were sitting and waiting as the wind still had not filled in. The PRO was in the lake and the rest of the team looked at trying to race in the river. Finally the call was made at 0800 to send the sailors to the lake where we started around 0830 and ended up getting a few races in, the RYC race team used the small bit of wind to get two full flights in before it again shut off. The sailors floated around until 1000 when a nice nor'easter filled in and we were able to move the whole fleet and course further into the lake where we ended up seeing the wind build to around 10kts and it ended up truing out to be a wonderful day of racing. We were able to start race number 45 at 1525 which was the end of round one. So over all SUnday we were able to get in 45 full races before the cut of time and finish a full round and send everyone home happy that we were able to race! It sure was a wonderful sunny warm weekend in WNY!
