2018 NJISA Girls Championship

Summary

Wednesday, May 23:

The highly anticipated 2018 New Jersey Girls Championship saw eight schools, creating 13 total teams, compete for the right to be crowned female state champion on Wednesday afternoon at TRYC.

The girls battled not only the tough inter-league competition, but also the tricky northwest breeze that kept the sailors on their toes. The 6 to 10 knot breeze constantly oscillated from left to right, so the ladies had to look ahead for the next shift throughout the afternoon.

After nine W4 races, Rumson-Fair Haven's Colleen O'Brien and Morgan Rice emerged as champions, taking the regatta by seven points over second place Dana Haig, Bridget Green & Brielle Willoughby from Southern Regional. Michaela O'Brien and Ameila Buch, also from RFH, finished in third place. Trinity Hall's Julia LaForgia and Hope McGuire were fourth, while Ranney's Brooke Schmelz and Catherine Vucetic rounded out the top five.

Thank you to the boys from Christian Brothers Academy, Michael Ehnot, Justin Modin and Ryan Mullins, for running the races. Our gratitude to TRYC and OCC for providing the facility and fleet. And finally, a special thanks to all the spectators who came out to enjoy this special event on a beautiful day, including the boys who came to root on their teammates.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
