MISSA East Baker Pre-Qualifier

Chilly weather greeted eight teams on Friday morning at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club's Marine Activities Center, but sporadic sunshine and a great spectator venue for close-in team racing made for a fun day for all involved. Wind speeds ranged from 5-12 knots out of the northeast throughout the day. One full round of racing was completed, for a total of 28 races. At that point, and based on high wind and storm warnings forecast for Saturday and Sunday, the regatta chair and all coaches agreed that the regatta was complete and that the teams should move on to the the Mallory pre-qualifier regatta.

Congratulations to the to top three teams: Grosse Pointe South, Rocky River, and West Bloomfield. These three teams move on to the MISSA Baker Qualifier at Pontiac Yacht Club on May 5-6.

A huge thank you to GPYC/GPYNEF and Grosse Pointe South High School for hosting the regatta, and to the following individuals: Harold Stackpoole, regatta chair; Eric Ellison, on-site MISSA representative; Lynn Frikker, MISSA representative; Cliff Black, umpire; Dennis Bartley, judge; Kathy Johnson, scorekeeper; Torrey Stackpoole and the entire hospitality crew; and the many other individuals who stepped up to assist on and off the water to make this a safe and fun regatta for all involved.
