MASSA 2019 Spring Gold Fleet Championship

Summary

Saturday, April 13:

Saturday morning started off with a thick fog and 0-2 knots. We went AP up until about 10:45am and sent the RC out to set the course as the Southerly started to fill. By 11:15am we had about 5-10 knots of breeze from the South but the fog still lingered. We were able to get off one full set before the fog settled back in and went right back into AP around 12:30pm. The fog finally lifted at 1:30pm so we went AP down and set the race course back up as the wind had shifted more to the SSW still at 5-10 knots. The Race Committee was able to rattle off races through the afternoon and we finished with a solid 16 total races by 6pm. The sailors hung in there all day and Race Committee led by PRO Steve Podlich did a phenomenal job co-ordinating races with the dense fog. Also a big shout out to Brad Milikin and Marissa Milikin for umpiring on Saturday.

Sunday, April 14:

Sunday morning was just like Saturday, minimal wind and very dense fog. We went straight into AP after roll call at AYC. At 11:15 am we went AP down and sent out A division in the 420's and shuttled B Division over to SSA to get the FJ's. We were able to roll right into races as the wind picked up to 7-12 from the SSW. Rotations were handled quickly and efficiently and we were able to get 4 more sets off for a total of 28 total races for the regatta. There was one protest heard and one by our protest committee of Alex Steele, Brady Stagg, and Barbara Vosbury which resulted in the disqualification of Key School from race 9B. After the protest hearings the standings were finalized. Congratulations to Christchurch School for winning the MASSA Gold Championships! Also moving on to Mallory is Ranney (2nd) and Severn School (3rd). Last but not least we would like to thank all of the Race Committee for putting on a very successful regatta under the circumstances and 2 really long days of racing. Steve Podlich (PRO), Keenan Hilsinger, Peter Henry, Jim Golden, Brianna Grenier, Keith Carew, Hal Whitaker, Zack Kelchner, Marissa Milikin, and Brad Milikin.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
