MDISA Team Race Qualifier

Eight of the top Team Race teams from MDISA gathered at AYC and SSA for the MASSA TR qualifier Saturday. The day started off with a very light breeze of about 0-4 from the North North East. We started with AP up while waiting for the breeze to figure itself out. Around 10:00am a nice Southerly filled in blowing between 5-10 knots gusting to about 13. AP came down and the sailors were sent out. There were some occasional left shifts throughout the day but the Race Committee handled it well and were able to correct the course when necessary. After the 1st round robin was over, we had 1 redress hearing for BCC which resulted in a re-sail of race 9 against St. Mary's HS. After Race 9 was re-sailed we moved into the Final 4 which included Severn, Bethesda Chevy-Chase, St. Mary's, and Great Mills. There was a 4 way tie for that last spot in the Final 4 which Great Mills came out on top of. Severn owned the day, not losing once, even in the Final 4. Bethesda slid into second, St. Mary's third, and Great Mills fourth. A huge shout out to our Race Committee: Gary Hurban, Joan Hurban, Eric Wiegand, Carter O'Neill, Brianna Grenier, Ryan White and our PRO Mark Bennett for setting up and managing a very well put together Regatta. Also thank you to our Umpire crew: Alex Steele, Remington King, Margaret Podlich, Bob Rutsch, and Head Umpire Brady Stagg. Congratulations to Severn for winning the event and to all the teams that have qualified for MASSA Team Race in Norfolk, VA.

Racing was finished on Saturday thanks to a great effort put forward by our Race Committee and Umpires.
