Eleven teams from Michigan and Ohio were ready to fleet race on Saturday to determine who would represent MISSA East at the MISSA Mallory qualifier regatta to be held at Pontiac Yacht Club on April 27 and 28. This regatta started immediately after the Baker regatta, with many of the teams participating in both regattas.
Teams were on the water just after noon, with winds clocked at 15-20 knots, gusting to 25 knots. The Race Committee completed two A division races and two B division races. With wind speeds increasing throughout the afternoon leading to increasingly challenging conditions, the Race Committee was able to complete a third A division race and a third B division race before sending competitors ashore for the day. Factoring into this decision was the number of boats capsizing and being damaged due to the racing conditions. After careful consideration of the forecast for Sunday which was not promising, it was determined that there would be no racing on Sunday and the regatta was complete.
Congratulations to the eight teams advancing to the MISSA Mallory Qualifier: Grosse Pointe South; St. Ignatius, Cleveland; Bay High School; West Bloomfield High School; Black River High School; Cranbrook Kingswood; Grosse Pointe North; and Rocky River High School.
