Ohio State Championship

Summary

Saturday, April 20:

What started out light and dreary ended up nice, breezy and sunny at the Ohio State Championship regatta held in Columbus Ohio! After a slow first A set, an on the water postponement during lunch was all the weather gods needed to usher in better breeze and a break in the clouds. 6 A and 6 B races were completed before the 4PM cut off. 3 protests and a breakdown request were heard resulting in a DSQ and an RAF. When the spray settled, St. Ignatius (OH) was crowned the new State Champion, followed closely by Westerville North and Olentangy Orange. Ignatius won A division while Orange won B's.

Many people helped make this event possible, including Shilah Griffeth (WNHS) in the kitchen making sure that the over 100 sailors, parents and support staff went away fat and happy. Sarah Hoctor (TWHS) designed our event t-shirt and handled the scoring, while overall regatta chair Jamie Jones (WSHS) organized the chaos. Finally, new to HS Sailing PRO Ted Thomas performed admirably handling the challenging conditions. The winds shifted from 030 in the morning to 260 in the afternoon (the long way...). Looking forward to seeing all of our friends and some new ones next weekend at the Westerville Classic!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
