SAISA Brunswick Open Regatta

Summary

Saturday, February 9:

The SAISA Brunswick Open Regatta, hosted by the Golden Isles Community Sailing Center, was held in the East Brunswick River at Brunswick Landing Marina in Brunswick, GA. Ten teams had registered, but due to illness one of the teams was not able attend. A nor’easter was blowing with gale force winds offshore; at the race venue, wind was 15-20 knots with gusts as high as 25 knots. Needless to say, it was a very challenging day for both the sailors and race committee. Numerous capsizes before and during each race resulted in numerous DNS’s, DNF’s and delays. After four grueling hours, three races in each division had been completed and we called it a day. Fortunately there were no serious injuries to sailors or boats, just a lot of wet, cold sailors and sails. Congratulations to Wando High, taking first place in both divisions and overall! And many thanks to Brunswick Landing Marina, the volunteers from the Golden Isles Sailing Club, and all the sailing team members, parents, and coaches who made the regatta possible.
