Wet N Cool Regatta

Summary

Saturday, March 30:

All teams attended a competitors' meeting at 0900, and the PRO adjusted the time of the first warning signal to 1000. Sunny and breezy conditions filled in from the south as the teams competed in the area of Mobile Bay directly in front of Fairhope Yacht Club. Winds were 10-15 kts. The teams sailed five rotations for a total of 10 races in each fleet. 7 teams competed in A fleet, while 5 teams competed in B. Teams returned to the harbor to perform rotations. At the end of the day, Jackson Prep edged out Fairhope High Team 1 by a single point.

Sunday, March 31:

A cold front moved through overnight, bringing temperatures in the upper 40s and gusty 15kt winds out of the Northwest. The PRO adjusted the starting time to 1000 again, and set the course in the area directly west of the club. The tide was over a foot lower than normal, which caused competitors to hit bottom in the troughs of the choppy seas. The race committee reset the course further out and was able to complete two races for A Fleet. However, by that time, the winds had increased to 23kts and were still gusty. Based on the weather conditions, the PRO decided to abandon all races for the day. The standings at the end of Saturday held.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
