NJISA 2021 BBYRA Spring Invitational

Summary

Saturday, April 24:

The first-ever BBYRA Spring Invitational was finally held one year after the inaugural spring season event should have been sailed at Toms River Yacht Club. The BBYRA Invitational is held in both the fall and spring seasons to celebrate the new relationship between the NJISA and BBYRA, as the BBYRA generously helped facilitate the purchase of the year-old FJ fleet.

Alas, 11 schools making up 13 teams competed for the Rooster Flag, as has been tradition on the Barnegat Bay for over 100 years. After the west wind died and caused an hour delay, a nice southerly built and allowed for 16 W4 races to be completed in just over three hours of sailing.

The Ranney School defined the word "consistent" throughout the day's series, never finishing out of the top three in any race. That gave the Panthers a 19-point advantage over second place Christian Brothers Academy by the end of the regatta. Biotechnology, Toms River North and Conestoga completed the top five. Unsurprisingly, Ranney won both the A and B Divisions.

One team was awarded its average score for three races after requesting breakdown points.

Once again, we have Dr. Nunn and Dave Magno to thank for keeping the races rolling and the course squared as the breeze shifted. Many thanks to TRYC, BBYRA and OCC for use of the facilities and fleets.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
