VISA Women's Fleet Championship

Summary

Sunday, April 18:

The conception of Allen Kilgore, the tenth annual VISA Women's Fleet Race Championship was held today at Youth Sailing Virginia on Mill Creek Hampton, VA. Sixteen teams representing nine schools competed on sparkling water under partly cloudy blue skies. The temperature hovered just above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and the water has finally warmed to just over 60 degrees as well.

Arriving at 11:00 AM, sixteen teams representing nine schools completed eleven 15-19 minute single division races on a W-4 course. The fleet was surprisingly tight with just enough separation between finish groups. Teams were off the water by 3:30, and finished with awards shortly after 4:00PM.

First place was taken by Maggie Campbell and Clara Murphy of Norfolk Collegiate School. A very close second place was earned by Leila Pfrang of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and Gracie Goodwin of Grafton High School. A very closely competitive third place is awarded to Audrey Permenter and Jennifer Permenter of Norfolk Academy.

VISA extends it's greatest thanks to Poquoson High School Sailing Team and Parents for organizing and running a fantastic event (and for the great competitor swag). Special thanks go to Candy DiCarlo for leading the effort with amazing energy, to Rooster for the donation of fleece gaiters for all competitors, and most importantly to Allen Kilgore for serving as PRO for not only today's Women's Championship, but also for serving as PRO for the previous ten years VISA Women's Championships as well as the inaugural MASSA Women's regatta on May 5-6, 2018.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
