The 2022 ISSA Fleet Race National Championship (Mallory Trophy) was hosted by Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego, California. Thank you to our PROs Doug Hart & Jimmer Montgomery, Regatta Chair Chris Wright, PCISA Executive Director Michael Segerblom and the many volunteers who donated their time to help with the running of the regatta.
Saturday began with overcast skies, moderate temperatures, and a variable WSW breeze averaging about 7 knots. All teams were present and accounted for. There were no change of boat rotations. Winds were up and down throughout the day, with changes in weather (some sprinkling of rain). Later in the day, the wind shifted further north to a steady W breeze. Winds ranged from 7 to 15 knots. Racing continued until 6:00pm on Saturday completing 26 races, 13 for each division.
Sunday provided warmer temperatures in the mid 60s and clear, sunny skies. At the scheduled first warning, the wind was about 9 knots and steadily WSW. The race committee started racing on time at 11am. The wind was steady at 9 knots and a WSW for the day of racing. Race committee completed a total of 14 races on Sunday, 7 in each fleet. The total races completed over the weekend was 40; 20 in each fleet. Racing finished up around 2:45pm followed by a trophy presentation.
Mater Dei High School took home first place, followed by Severn School in second place, and Immaculata La Salle High School in third. Congratulations to all sailors that made it to the 2022 ISSA Fleet Race National Championships!
