Baker Trophy 2022

Day 1 of the 2022 ISSA Baker Team Race National Championship saw near perfect team race conditions on Clear Lake. With racing right off the Lakewood Yacht Club jetty, the 12 teams rotated quickly through 24 boats to keep the races moving.

Racing began at 10:00 am, and a full rotation of 66 races was completed by 5:30 pm. A steady east to southeast breeze at 6-10 kts held for most of the day. A late afternoon shift to the left, and a course reset, briefly interrupted the final races of the day.

At the end of day 1, the Royal Lions of Immaculata La Salle High School stand in first place with the Severn School Admirals in in second and the Mater Dei High School Monarchs in third.

Sunday started with a postponement due to storms. Racing got under way about 11:00 am with sunny skies & temps in the 80's, but light winds. After a wind shift and a course reset, racing got under way for the Gold, Silver & Bronze divisions. The wind fluctuated between 5 to 10 knots throughout the day, with a second wind shift and course reset later in the afternoon.

Gold fleet was able to complete 1 round, however the Silver & Bronze rounds were not able to finish due to another wind shift, a decrease in breeze and the time limit of 3PM.

Immaculata La Salle - SAISA won the overall with a 12/2 record, followed closely by Mater Dei - PCISA scoring 11/3 and third is The Severn School - MASSA with a 10/4 record.

Thank you to all of the many, many volunteers and organizers who helped with this regatta, and the hosts Lakewood Yacht Club and Bay Access Organization. Special thanks to all of the umpires as they worked especially hard as we lost almost half of our scheduled umpire team just before the regatta due to covid. They did a great job of taking the time to explain calls or non-calls and discuss with the competitors how and why calls were made.
