MASSA welcomed 13 teams from the Mid Atlantic region to Youth Sailing Virginia on Mill Creek in Haqmpton Virginia. Sailors were greeted by heavy fog and no wind when resulting in a lengthy postponement on land. Winds picked up and became consistent allowing races to begin at 11:42AM. Eventually we saw sunny skies with temps reaching 66 degrees. Seas were “Mill Creek Flat” (quote by Alan Bomar) with winds 5 - 9 kts ENE.
Our top three teams at the end of the day were Nansmond Suffolk Academy in first place, Hampton Roads Academy in second place, and Severn in third.
On the second day of racing, sailors were able to get out on the water quickly with the first race beginning at 9:31 AM in a bit of fog. Winds started out consistent at 7 kts with gusts up to 10 kts SW but dropped off around 11:30AM. After a lull winds returned to 5kts WSW. Again, seas were “Mill Creek Flat.”
Nansemond Suffolk Academy captured first place and a berth at the Phebe King Memorial Regatta. Hampton Roads Academy took a close second, and Severn School took third place.
Congratulations to our top finishers and thank you to our volunteers, especially PRO Alan Bomar.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
