The second annual BBYRA Spring High School Invitational saw 17 teams from 13 schools contend for the BBYRA Rooster Flag, as per Barnegat Bay trophy tradition for over 100 years.
Racing got underway around 10:45 a.m., after a brief rain squall shifted and stalled the breeze temporarily. After the rain passed, the wind began to fill from the southwest before shifting farther west and picking up in velocity. By midday, sailors were tested with steady 12-15 knots with gusts approaching 20. Ultimately, 12 W4 races were completed, with minor delays due to the changing breeze and conditions.
When racing was finished, it was Christian Brothers Academy's team one that emerged with a nine-point edge over the Colts' second team. Donovan Catholic was a close third, just one point out of second place. Toms River North and Ranney School were fourth and fifth.
In A Division, Toms River North's Everett Botwinick and Lindsay Walsh finished at the top with CBA team one's Ryan Ehnot, Mitchell Hnatt, and Connor Feury five points behind them in second. CBA team two's Noah Kuzloski and Kyle Lombardino edged their CBA team one counterparts Colin Guerrera and Nicholas Cunha by two points in B Division.
Thank you to Dr. Randall Nunn (PRO), Dave Magno (mark boat), Brian Hull (safety boat), and Jason Lutz (scorer) for helping run this regatta. In their namesake regatta, we are grateful to the BBYRA for partnering with the NJISA to advance and promote high school sailing in the area. Of course, thank you to TRYC for continuing to graciously host high school sailors, coaches, and parents.
