The 2022 NJISA Spring Fleet Championship saw 14 schools contend for a chance to advance to the MASSA District Championships in mid-May.
Sailors arrived at Toms River Yacht Club to cooler temperatures and a northeast breeze at five knots. Racing got underway around 10:30 and one full set was completed in the northeast breeze, running two W4s and two W3s. As forecasted, the wind began to shift farther east and the course was reset to allow W4s to be run for the rest of the series. In total, 16 races were completed with 14 of them being W4s.
With the changing conditions testing the competitors, the racing was as close as we have seen all season in New Jersey. Donovan Catholic and Christian Brothers Academy flip flopped for the first half of the series, before Donovan began to extend during the second half of the day. The Griffins won the regatta with 58 points to the second place Colts' 73 points. Southern Regional was third with 82 points and Toms River North finished fourth with 86 points.
Those four schools will represent the NJISA at the MASSA Mallory Championship in Christchurch, Virginia. The next four teams - Biotechnology, Ranney, Delbarton, and Pingry - have qualified for the MASSA Silver Championship in Fort Monroe, Virginia.
Delbarton's James O'Gwen and Johnny Lang were the A Division winners, while Donovan's Kevin Brooksbank and Nora Ciak topped B Division.
Thank you to Dr. Randall Nunn (PRO), Dave Magno (mark set), Harry Foote (US Sailing judge), and Jason Lutz (scoring) for helping this regatta run smoothly. Our thanks to TRYC for welcoming us to the facility and the BBYRA for providing the fleet of FJs. Good luck to all of the NJISA teams in Virginia!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
