16 FJs competed in 10 races in Port Townsend Bay, right off the Northwest Maritime Center, on a beautiful sunny day with crystal clear skies, and a gentle, fluky wind that came from the northeast, then the north, then the northwest, and finally from the north again. The race committee and mark boats tracked those changes, and presented the racers with fair windward-leeward courses with an offset at the windward mark. The racing was pretty consistent, with the same, best-scoring teams generally out in front in every race, but the fleet as a whole was well-matched, with the boats out in front never a whole leg ahead of the boats in the rear of the fleet (so the best teams were consistently better than other teams, but not by much).
At the awards ceremony at the end of the day, chocolate was awarded to the top 3 finishing teams: Bainbridge, Port Townsend, and Bainbridge -- and several of the winning skippers raised their hands (after being prompted by their coach) to show that this was their first time skippering in a regatta.
