NJISA 2023 BBYRA Spring Invitational

Summary

Saturday, April 15:

Twelve NJISA schools making up 16 sailing teams competed in the 2023 BBYRA Spring Invitational regatta. Under partly sunny skies and seasonably warm temperatures, easterly 8-11 knot winds oscillated back and forth from east-to-southeast throughout the day with an ominous backdrop of dense fog in the bay to the east and plumes of smoke from a forest fire to the south.

Six W4 races were completed in each division. With tight scoring between the CBA Colts and Donovan Catholic Griffins throughout the day, the final outcome of the regatta came down to the last two B Division races where CBA held onto its lead to secure their win over Donovan Catholic by only two points. The Southern Regional Rams came in 3rd place with the Conestoga Pioneers and Point Beach Garnett Gulls rounding out the top 5 places.

A Division sailors James Kopeck and Caroline Felser won the division for Donovan Catholic, with Richard Pokorny and crew Tessa Buckowski placing 2nd for Point Beach and CBA's Christopher Small and crew Nicholas Cuhna placing 3rd.

B Division was won by CBA's Bryce Vitiello and Luke Pennisi, followed in 2nd place by Donovan Catholic's sailors Kevin Brooksbank and Liam Marcell, and then Southern Regional's Bella Placa and Kaylan Hoffacker finishing 3rd in the division.

As always, thank you to TRYC, BBYRA, the Sailing Foundation of Barnegat Bay and all the friends of high school sailing that support NJISA.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
