NWISA Ranking Regatta #2 - Gold

Summary

Saturday, March 16:

Racing started on time at 11:03a.m. with race 1A in a light northerly, ebbing current, and sunshine.

Race 2A was general recalled due to a 90° shift right at the start. The course was shifted to match the 2-4kt easterly and restarted at 11:38am

Race 1B had a general recall for the same shift as Race 2A. Races 1B and 2B started in a light easterly 2-4kts.

Race 3A and 4A started in the same light easterly. Regular oscillations of 20°+ occurred. Race 4A had 2 general recalls. After a reminder to all racers that 1-minute rule is in effect after a general, only three racers were over and cleared in the actual 4A start.

Race 6B ended at 4:52p.m. An attempt at starting race 7A was called off after the easterly thermal in Eagle Harbor died due to wind filling in on the Sound.

Sunday, March 17:

First race (7A) started at 10:39a.m. in a light 2-4kt easterly.

Race 8 started a building easterly. 5-6kts.

There were general recalls for races 8B, 9B, 10B, and 11A.

Racing continued through single rotation for races 11A and 11B and ended at 2:44p.m. (22 races total).

The judges did not need to yellow flag rule 42. They made the following comment: "There was quite a bit of marginal sculling at the first start, but after that, most sailors settled down. Two sculling violations during starts turned out to be general recalls; we spoke to both skippers after the race and told them if it hadn't been a general recall, we would have flagged them. There was a report of ooching at the weather mark and in the middle of the fleet, but we didn't see enough to flag."

As with Saturday, the current was ebbing all afternoon, and everyone enjoyed the sunshine with highs in the 60s!

The sportsmanship award was given to Pt. Townsend HS team for their kindness, friendly attitudes (complimenting other teams, helping, asking for advice), and follow-through with penalty turns.

Big thanks to everyone who volunteered, brought boats and sails, helped in any way, and traveled to Bainbridge! It was a fantastic weekend!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
