VISA Hampton Roads Academy Team Race Regatta

A beautiful day on Mill Creek welcomed 10 teams from 7 schools to winds ranging from 10-14 mph with gusts slightly higher, consistently out of the SSW, blue skies and 80 degrees.

With the first start by 8:30am, the regatta completed a full round robin of 45 races on a digital N course. For this event, coaches served as umpires. After the initial round robin, race 42 was resailed due to coach/umpire disagreement regarding a penalty. Kecoughtan inadvertently missed a mark during the resail resulting in a DNF which dropped their team out of 4th place. Teams were subsequently ranked resulting in Christchurch 1, Norfolk Academy, Christchurch 2, and Norfolk Collegiate moving on to a final 4; completing 51 races for the regatta by the 3:00 no start after time.

Christchurch School Team 1 took first place with 12 wins/0 losses. Norfolk Academy followed in second with 10 wins and 2 losses and Christchurch School Team 2 finished third with 8 wins and 4 losses.

Greatest thanks goes too the volunteers who made the event run very smoothly, especially ODU coach Morgan Collins who served as PRO and the ODU sailors who helped with umpiring and finish, and to the HRA team for coordinating all aspects of the event.
