Nine teams from 5 schools met on the Rappahannock River to compete in the VISA Team Race Championship for the Patterson Trophy. We had a beautiful spring day with moderate temps in the low 70's. Racing commenced around 9:30 after the initial a lull filled in quickly at 6 mph with gusts higher. Winds built throughout the day, eventually to the high teens with gusts into the mid 20's resulting in abandoned racing in early-afternoon. Direction oscillated to and fro SW to SSW. Waves built to almost three feet.
Norfolk Academy Team 1 left early for prom forfeiting 3 races. Maury withdrew due to conditions forfeiting 1 race. 34 races out of the 36 race initial round robin were completed. Using the 80% rule, this completes the round and regatta.
Christchurch School Team 1 took first place with 8 wins and 0 loss. Following in second place is Christchurch Team 2 with 6 wins and 1 loss, and in third place is Norfolk Collegiate with 6 wins and 1 loss.
Thanks goes to Sam Patterson for serving as PRO and Sabrina Kanaley for assisting. We also thank AJ Piccillo for jumping in to run the finish boat and to Christchurch School for hosting.
