Christchurch School Invitational Regatta

Summary

Saturday, October 28:

Fourteen teams of sailors from 8 schools as far away as Illinois were greeted on the Rappahannock River with clear skies and unseasonably warm temperatures. Winds were out of the South clocking to SE with oscillations, hovering in the morning at 10-12 mph with gusts, lulling to 7 mph by 3 PM, and jumping to 18 shortly after 4 PM. Sailors completed 10 races in each of two divisions on a W-4 course, with A division starting in FJ's, and B in 420's. Fleets were switched after the third set.

Sunday, October 29:

With only two sets left for a full round robin, sailors emerged from early morning rains to warm temperatures and South winds of 10-12 mph that moved east of south, and dropped to 8 mph by the time racing concluded at 1:00 PM. Rain held off while sailors completed 4 races in each division on a W-4 course. Congratulations to Christchurch school for capturing first place, to Duxbury High School for taking second place, and to Evanstown High School for finishing in third. Trophies were awarded to the top three finishing schools, skippers, and crew.

Special thanks to Christchurch School and extended community for their gracious hospitality. Families from CCS provided housing for some of the out of town teams and served as mark boats. Breakfast delicious and plentiful, and the staff was welcoming.

Sincere thanks to Craig Dozier for her support of CCS sailing and by extension high school sailing throughout the state and beyond.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
