MISSA Girls Great Lakes Championship

Saturday, September 14:

The MISSA Girls Great Lakes Championship, hosted by Grosse Pointe South, was held at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. Ten teams of girls from high schools throughout the MISSA Midwest district competed. It was a sunny day with warm temperatures and winds were out of the west 10-16 knots. Racing started at 10:13AM and went the entire day until the Race Committee boat docked at 5:06PM. A division completed races 1A through 8A. B division completed races 1B through 8B.

Sunday, September 15:

The second day of the MISSA Girls Great Lakes Championship started off with cloudy weather. Protests and redress from the previous day were addressed this morning. Peter Griffin and Brian Geraghty were judges at the protest hearings. After those were resolved, racing started at 10:06AM. Winds were out of the Southwest 10-18 knots with passing rain showers. The Race Committee was monitoring the conditions and determined that the nearest lightning strike was over 350 miles away. Considering that the weather just consisted of passing rain showers, racing continued. A division completed races 9A through 14A and B division completed 9B through 14B. Races were finished and the Race Committee boat docked at 2:45PM. Protests were heard and Peter Griffin and Zac Hernandez were the judges. Scores were then finalized. At the Awards Ceremony, the following awards were given out: 1st place Minnetonka Skippers, 2nd place Grosse Ile Scarlet, 3rd place Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils, and 4th place Mercy MUDJ. These schools were notified that they have earned the berth and will advance to competing in the PCISA Girls Invitational at San Diego Yacht Club on October 19-20th.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
