The second annual BBYRA Fall Invitational Regatta saw 18 teams from 15 schools compete for the coveted Rooster Flag, as has been the tradition for over 100 years on the Barnegat Bay.
Sailors were greeted by crisp - but warming - temperatures and a light northwest wind. The breeze would oscillate between north and west for much of the day, with wind speeds ranging from 5 to 12 knots. One major course adjustment was needed in the middle of the day before a steadier northwest breeze settled in once again.
Twenty total races, 13 W4s and 7 W3s, were completed on the day, with both the FJ and 420 fleets on the water at the same time.
Christian Brothers Academy emerged as the 2020 winner of the Rooster Flag, holding off runner-up Donovan Catholic by six points. Toms River North, Ranney and Chatham rounded out the day's top-five.
Ranney's Brooke Schmelz and Ashley Abboud won a tiebreaker in A division over CBA's Ryan Ehnot and Mitchell Hnatt, with Toms River North in third. Donovan Catholic's Javier Ojeda and Kevin Brooksbank won the B division, followed by CBA and Toms River North.
Many thanks to Dave Magno for serving as the mark set and upwind finish boat and to the Schmelz family for use of their RIB. A big thank you to Toms River Yacht Club for letting the sailors spread out around their facility, the BBYRA for use of the year-old FJ fleet, and OCC for use of the 420 fleet.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
