Races started on time at 10 AM with winds ranging from 5-11 knots from the northeast shifting more to the east during the day and increasing to 11 knots. Entries were divided into two fleets, sailing on the same course with starts about 4 minutes apart. The top 7 scorers in each of the Red and Green fleets after 10 races will move on to the Gold Fleet in Sunday's competition. The bottom 7 scorers in each fleet will move on to the Silver Fleet in Sunday's competition. There were no protests.
