2024 ISSA Baker Team Race National Championship

Day 1: Friday, May 17, 2024 The 2024 ISSA Baker Team Race National Championship started with sun and wind after twelve teams were welcomed at Oak Harbor Yacht Club. Individual course-side viewing platforms were assigned to each team on the outer dock of Oak Harbor Marina. Fourteen umpires and an equal number of race management volunteers ensured a successful start to the first round robin. Racing started at 1503 on Friday in a steady westerly breeze of 15 knots gusting into the low 20s with relatively flat water. The wind was fairly consistent with 15 to 20 degree oscillations. Racing concluded with race 30 which started at 1812. Races were typically 6 to 8 minutes.

Day 2, Saturday, May 18, 2024 After a brief 0900 competitors meeting, boats were launched, and racing started on Saturday with race 31 at 0954 in a strong westerly breeze in the mid-to-high teens. Similar to Friday, the wind was oscillating 15 to 20 degrees and briefly switched to NW. A sail-off was conducted after race 66 to split the tie for 8th place between Norfolk Academy and Clear Falls. Teams were seeded into gold, silver, and bronze divisions for the final round robins. The strong westerly wind built throughout the day with gusts increasing into the mid-to-upper 20s. Sailing ended with race 88 which started at 1618. Race 87 was skipped due to rotation delays

Day 3, Sunday, May 19, 2024 After a final competitors meeting at 0900, boats were launched. The course was set in a light shifty 3 to 6 knot westerly breeze and racing started on Sunday with race 87 at 1015. The wind briefly died during race 97 which was abandoned and restarted when the wind resumed. After race 100 the wind died again then temporarily shifted north before resettling from the west. Racing resumed at 1309 for race 101. We started the last race 102 at 1316. After derigging and loading half of the FJs on trailers, we had awards on the lawn next to OHYC and thanked our many volunteers and sponsors as well as teams and their supporters for their participation.
