25 teams descended on Hoover Sailing Club on a crisp autumn morning to find 5-8 knots of northerly breeze on the lake. Perfect conditions to kick off the 2018 MISSA Great Oaks Qualifier event. Too bad it didn't last... our race committee team did manage to get 5 great races in before it shut down at lunch. After an extended break on shore, a bit of breeze did filter back in and we were able to get one more in before calling it a day. 7 protests and 1 breakdown filed resulted in 4 DSQ's. More racing Sunday to finish out the series.
After a bit of an on the water postponement waiting for the breeze to fill in, another 4 races were completed in a light southerly wind. 1 more protest was filed (and disallowed) finishing our series with 10 races.
A ton of people go into running these events, and this weekend was no exception. Shilah Griffeth (WNHS) and her merry band of misfits kept us fed all weekend, Doug Squires (TWHS) and his team of race managers keep the flow going on the water, and all of the Columbus parents kept all of our out of town guests happy and feeling right at home.
Congrats to Mounds Park, St. Ignatius (OH), Westerville North and Indian Hill for qualifying to go to New Orleans in November for the Great Oaks Invitational Regatta.
