NESSA Fleet Racing Champs (O'Day Trophy) - 2019

Summary

Sunday, April 14:

Lake Wononscopomuc challenged the sailors today. She threw several different velocities and directions at the fleets, but all responded well.

Thanks to the Salisbury School we were able to put 15 FJ's and 15 420's on the water. The morning began slowly with the wind coming from the dreaded northeast. This is really the only direction that makes it difficult to run a large fleet race regatta because of the length of time it takes for rotations. After an hour lunch break, we decided to simply go out and chase the wind around with the hopes of completing just one or two more races. But the forecast for a steady southeast came true at 1330. We sent both fleets on course three's and things started to look up. We finished six races in both divisions in the last two hours of the day. And the weather and leeward legs were challenging for the sailors with shifts coming at random intervals and puffs traveling straight down over the nearby hills.

Congratulations to all the competitors for being patient with our lake and its ever changing breezes. And thank you to the Hotchkiss School dining hall for catering the event with tasty breakfast and lunch. I appreciate the volunteers and their dedication to high school sailing.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
