Day 1 of the MISSA Championships hosted by Chicago Yacht Club, New Trier High School, St. Ignatius (IL), and Walter Payton College Prep started with cool temperatures and sunny skies. The wind was blowing from the southwest reasonably consistently for most of the day. On a trapezoid course, there were some velocity changes and shifts from time to time, which made sailing quite exciting both for the sailors and the spectators. The race committee was able to get in 6 A and B rotations for the day. After day one, Saint Ignatius of Illinois led Bay High School of Ohio by seven points. Minnetonka, Culver Academies, and Arrowhead rounded out the top 5 schools.
The second day of the MISSA Championship weekend brought sunny skies, warm temperatures, and gusty southwest winds. This is not your typical November day in Chicago. The winds started out lighter and westerly, making it challenging for sailors in the inner harbor to sail. As a result, the sailing was extremely exciting, with many lead changes that seemed to frustrate the teams at times. As the day developed, the breeze picked up and settled back into a Southwest Direction, providing plenty of velocity shifts as well as large holes to keep the teams on their toes. Congratulations to the Bay Rockets for winning the 2021 MISSA Great Lakes Championships.
The Chicago Yacht Club race committee ran 13 A and B races for the MISSA Great Lakes Championships and 12 A & B races for the Shepheard Championship races. It was an incredible sight to witness 38 sailing boats over the weekend.
Please thank the Chicago Yacht Club On the Water team for transporting the 21-420s from CYC Belmont Station to our Monroe station! Also, I would like to thank the CYC Race Committee for running 50 races over the weekend and the Jury for their hard work adjudicating redresses and protests for both events.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
